The background of Alberto Rios's site is an artistic interpretation of a topographic map of the city, or cities, of Heroica Nogales, Sonora, and Nogales, Arizona, where Ríos spent his young life. The upper half of the background is the state of Arizona, and the lower half is the state of Sonora.

Although the cities are divided by the U.S.- Mexico border, which is notated with hatched lines, geographic features like rivers and elevations run seamlessly across the political boundary.

Nature runs through the whole land — land without borders.
